Privacy Policy
Last updated: 17 June 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Snapfari ("we", "us") collects, uses and protects your personal data when you use our website snapfari.app and the Snapfari mobile app (together, the "Service"). We are committed to processing your data in accordance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
1. Who is responsible for your data
The data controller is Boris Chabirand, an individual established in France. For any question about this policy or your data, contact us at hello@snapfari.app.
2. What data we collect
Account data
- Email address, to create and secure your account and send confirmation/service emails.
- Username / display name, the pseudonym you choose, shown in the app.
- Password, stored only in hashed (encrypted) form; we never see it in clear text.
In-app data
- Your collection, the species you identify and your progress in the game.
- Location (GPS), only if you grant location permission, the coordinates of a capture are saved so you can later view your captured animals on a map. You can refuse or revoke this permission at any time in your device settings.
Technical data
- Basic technical information needed to operate the Service (e.g. device/app version, and IP address transmitted to our service providers when loading content).
3. About your photos
When you snap an animal, the photo is used only to identify the species at that moment and is then discarded. We do not store your photos on our servers. Only the resulting capture (species, date and, if enabled, location) is saved to your collection.
4. Why we use your data and our legal bases
- To provide the Service (account, collection, gameplay), performance of our agreement with you (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)).
- To save capture locations on a map, your consent (Art. 6(1)(a)), which you can withdraw at any time.
- To secure the Service and prevent abuse (e.g. anti-cheat checks), our legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)).
- To send service emails (confirmation, beta updates), agreement performance / your consent.
5. Who we share data with
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with service providers ("processors") acting on our behalf:
- Supabase (authentication and database), stores your account and collection data.
- Hostinger International Ltd. (web hosting), hosts our website.
- Google Fonts, when loading our pages, your IP address is transmitted to Google to deliver fonts.
Some providers may process data outside the EU/EEA. Where that happens, transfers are covered by appropriate safeguards such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
6. How long we keep your data
We keep your account and collection data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we erase or anonymise your personal data within 3 years of account closure, except where the law requires us to keep certain records longer.
7. Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict or object to the processing of your data, and the right to data portability. Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw it at any time. To exercise these rights, email hello@snapfari.app.
If you are in the EU and believe your rights are not respected, you can lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority (in France, the CNIL, cnil.fr).
8. Security
We use reputable providers and technical measures (encryption in transit, hashed passwords, access controls) to protect your data. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep your information safe.
9. Children
The Service is not intended for children under 15. We do not knowingly collect data from children below that age. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the new version here and update the "Last updated" date. Significant changes may also be notified by email.
